Other Inventions

Other Inventions during the lifetime of Ernest Rutherford was tanks, fighter planes, machine guns, skyscrapers, and automobiles. Tanks, which were used in World War 1, were imperfect and were not widely used. Fighter planes, on the other hand, were used during dog fights over trenches. Both machines however, did not affect the victors of WWI. Automobiles changed the entire world as it is. They were first seen as a plaything by the rich and powerful, but were later bought by the middle class for commuting (Bulliet 824). By 1929, the United States had five-sixths of the world’s automobiles (Bulliet 825). Skyscrapers were also another new piece of technology that transformed the urban society. Major corporations in both New York and Chicago built some of the most imposing and daring skyscrapers the world has today (Bulliet 824).
