The Sino-Japanese War was a war between the newly industrialized Japanese country and the classic, unyielding Chinese army. The Japanese easily defeated the Chinese in this war and forced the Chinese to pay indemnity (Bulliet 759). The Russo-Japanese war was between the Russians and Japanese. While everyone expected to see Russia easily crush the Japanese, everyone was shocked to see the Japanese easily destroy the Russians. Due to their victory in this war the Japanese were able to establish themselves as a great power of the world (Bulliet 759). The most famous war of this time period would be World War 1. Two main factions fought during WWI; the Allies and the Central Powers (Bulliet 800-812).
